Dear Genius October Edition
Dear Genius,
I have taken the assessment for Working Genius and understand how I work. How can I discuss this with my manager? Can a Working Genius session benefit the entire company?
One of the best things about the Working Genius is its simplicity. I suggest just sharing the straightforward results with your manager. Just say, “Here are some things that I learned about myself. This is why I am doing really well here but not so great here.”
Just recently, I had an employee who wanted to exchange some job duties for others that brought her joy. After taking the Working Genius assessment, she identified her geniuses as Wonder and Discernment. She recognized that by handing over some of her job responsibilities to someone with Invention in their genius, we could reduce friction and increase joy for everyone involved. And guess what? It worked! She’s happier and more productive. And her colleague is delighted to have more responsibilities within their wheelhouse. The team is more balanced and, frankly more excited.
Even if your manager doesn’t have the Working Genius language, your results can offer insight and logical explanation for your discussion. After sharing your results, you can share the benefits of having Working Genius shared with the entire team.
Working Genius Training can transform work for people by helping them:
Understand their successes and failures
Clarify work that gives joy and energy and which types are draining and difficult
Avoid making unfair and inaccurate judgments
Alleviate guilt about struggles people have with certain types of work
Improve dialogue in team meetings
Make quick and concrete adjustments to roles and responsibilities to better tap into one another’s strengths
Get more done in less time
